Paris Day 3, Part 1

On Monday we headed out early to make the train bound for Mont St Michel. It used to be accessible only during low tide, but they've built a dike with a road on top so now you can get there all the time. It's just a big, old abbey surrounded by a small, old village on an island in the NW corner of France.

We were quite excited to visit Mont St Michel, but first we had to take the Metro, with our bags, to the train station. They don't announce which train will be at which track until about 10-15 minutes before the train is scheduled to depart. This being our first experience with a train station, we were a bit NERVOUS about messing it up. But, success! We did ok.

After the train and then a bus ride, we are here! We couldn't believe how stinkin' cute everything was. It's also mostly uphill, so Karl graciously took his pregnant wife's bag!

Closeup of a cross on one of the graves in the graveyard near our hotel room. Many of them had intricately carved crosses.

A touching graveyard outside our Mont St Michel hotel room.

Cheers to lunch in Mont St Michel.

Fresh seafood plate. We were expecting pieces of fish maybe, but we got oysters, snails, prawns, and shrimp. The shrimp and prawns were eyes, claws and everything right on the plate. I'm not a big seafood gal anyway, but even Karl wasn't going to eat it. Thank goodness Vicki is an adventurous eater, she would eat something first and give the rest of us the courage to try it. I tried everything but the oysters, I think they are on the no list of pregnancy food.

After lunch we explored the village.
